How does it work?
Step 1: Create A Promotional Subscription Program
You create a promotional subscription program for your customers, such as "Our EzCpn Savings Club", that offers savings UNAVAILABLE to the general consumer.
Step 2: Recruit Subscribers
Several methods can be used for opting in:
- In-store signage, explaining the program and directing the consumer to text a keyword to a mobile phone short code, or to a website. The customer opt in happens immediately with the short code method.
- You can place the call-to-action on bags/packaging, register receipts, bag stuffers...etc., basically any medium that a customer takes away from your store.
- A mobile program can also be advertised on billboards and radio/TV advertising.
- If you have a website, an opt-in form can be inserted, where you can also request demographic data that can be used for targeting promotions.
- Whatever method you utilize to advertise your mobile program, you should provide an incentive for consumers to text in. That incentive will depend on the nature of your business. For example, a restaurant might offer its patrons 5% off that day`s bill for signing up.
Step 3: Create Promotional SMS Campaigns
Campaigns can be created to satisfy specific business objectives, such as filling in low traffic times, clearing overstock items, featuring new product.etc.
Step 4: Select A Subscriber Base For Your Campaign
From your subscriber base, choose the population that best suits your campaign. For example, a shoe retailer may choose to send a promotion for a specific brand of athletic shoe to only males between certain ages. Remember that, if you use a website for your opt in, subscriber demographics can be captured.
Step 5: Create Your SMS Message For Your Campaign
Create the message that you want to broadcast to your target market - attaching yet another "short code be" included in order to track results.
Step 6: Set Your Campaign To Broadcast
Stage the campaign for broadcast. You can specify the day and time of day that you want your message sent. When that time arrives, your promotion will be sent to the mobile phones of your targeted subscribers as a text message.
That`s it!
With our txt4mor software, you can self-manage every aspect of your mobile program. The service is free to users and they only pay their standard text message rates from their wireless carriers and based on the current plan they have.
-

No. Our service and short code works with all wireless carriers across Canada and the United States and every mobile phone on the market accepts text messages (even if you don't currently text!).
-
Why is text messaging better than audio tours?
Although two completely different types of marketing approaches, text messaging is now more popular than making telephone calls and hard wired into our culture as the preferred way to communicate. It is instant and there is no person to listen to on the other end of a phone explaining a long list of details or features. With a text message, you are also able to keep the information on your phone for viewing or making contact later. You can also forward the text with all the details to a friend or family member. As an agent, you are also able to capture the lead of the person requesting the text info if they opt-in and request a showing, price change or want to know about an open house.
-
I want potential buyers to call my phone number on the sign, why would I give them information?
The reality is, people, who are buying a home, research the market and properties by a) driving by, b) online (MLS) and c) newspaper ads.
None of these marketing methods allow an agent to measure the response rates or capture a lead. By enticing a potential buyer to send a text message to receive basic property details, we captures their mobile phone number to follow up on later along with also providing an automated value added service. We offer a measurable, efficient and leading edge marketing platform that offers so much more than just a traditional sign.
-
Will potential buyers still call my phone number?
Absolutely. Offering our text messaging service is simply a matter of providing a better service to sellers along with giving consumers what they are now demanding; "Instant Information". Providing basic listing or for sale details via text message is capturing a whole new segment of the market and research has shown it generates more interest which leads to more calls. And remember, if someone doesn't text (yet!), nothing stops them from calling your number as they normally would!
-
How can I follow up on a text message inquiry?
You will be notified via text message when a lead comes in from a potential buyer who has requested you to contact them. You can contact the prospect by phone or text at that point. All activity and every number for text information for each listing code is available from within your account on our website.

Texting during an Emergency?
Most wireless phones today are text messaging capable and permit the sending of short messages (also known as text messages) between mobile phones, other handheld devices, and even landline telephones.
During an emergency, such as a natural disaster, voice networks can become congested or overloaded with an influx of people trying to call each other. Unfortunately, more often than not, this results in people not being able to talk to people they need or want to talk to, such as emergency services or friends and loved ones. In some rare instances this also can result in emergency service personal not being able to communicate with each other.
Text messages however use far less bandwidth than a normal voice call and therefore are more reliable in trying to communicate in these type of circumstances. So, even if a network is over-congested with voice calls, your text message for help will have a much higher likelihood of getting through to the people who can assist you much faster than a phone call. And - equally as important - by texting during an emergency you are freeing up the voice lines for emergency officials to use.
-
What non-emergency uses can I choose?
- Notify Parents and Guardians rapidly of school closure due to bad weather
- Reduce costs (notably telephone bills)
- Reduce truancy
- Free up your valuable time and the time of admin staff when contacting parents
or responding to repetitive requests.
- Increase parent involvement in their child`s education
- Increase communication between teachers and parents
- Remind Governors about up coming meetings
- Allow pupils to contact the school privately and in confidence, using a
communication channel they are comfortable with.
- Dramatically reduce time taken to contact supply staff and arrange cover when staff call in sick.

Why Text Messaging?
Available where e-mail is not available.
Almost overnight they appear in business parks and industrial areas, near suburban shopping malls, and along rural highways. Silhouetted against the sky or squirreled behind trees or buildings, cellular telephone towers are everywhere in the cities, suburbs, and towns of America. Following major highways, rows of towers evolve from self-supporting monopoles in densely populated areas to tall, tapered columns or wire-anchored masts in the countryside. An estimated 128,000 cellular antennae distributed across the United States symbolize the nation's growing freedom from wired communication.
Faced with federal licensing requirements, cellular companies (known also as cell or wireless service providers) are under pressure to extend their networks' geographical boundaries. Forecasts in the late 1990s suggested that 100,000 cellular telephone towers would be in place by 2010.

General Questions
MIT Studies: Sales on the Internet
-
What is text message marketing?
Think of text message marketing as you do email marketing, except instead of collecting an email address you collect a mobile phone number. Like email marketing, you create campaigns at a website and only send them to customers who have opted-in to receive your message. But unlike email, you don't need fancy graphics, just up to 160 characters of plain 'ol text. So even the most non-technical and non-marketing savvy small business owner can pick it up in just a couple of minutes. Customers will instantly read your message 97% of the time.
Text message marketing for business use has been around for several years now, especially at youth-friendly establishments like fast food joints, hip clothing stores, and the nightclub scene. Already, a Comscore study shows that 25% of mobile phone users participate in at least one (and up to 10) text message marketing programs monthly.
Expect 2010 to see far greater adoption due to:
- Adoption of Texting across generations - Texting is now engrained in our way of communicating, with the average American sending/receiving almost twice as many texts than phone calls
- Acceptance of mobile coupons - A recession-weary public hungering for discounts is latching on to mobile coupons as the "killer mobile app" due to their convenience. More consumer-packaged goods companies, restaurants, and grocers are launching mobile coupons each month.
- Proven ROI - Texting is proving its chops versus email and social media. On average, texting gets seven times the response rate versus email (7% vs 1%) and reaches 25x the number of users as does Twitter.
The uses of texting are as varied as those of a swiss army knife: promotions, coupons, alerts, staff messages, sweepstakes, trivia, and voting. Whether you're a barber shop, video store, or yoga studio, TEXTING CAN INCREASE YOUR BUSINESS in 2010.
-
Who uses text message marketing?
In 2008 and 2009 fast food joints like Wendy's, Burger King, Subway, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and Chipotle launched texting programs, mobile sites, and iPhone apps that enable a consumer to order food for pick-up.
Big box retailers Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Sears, J.C. Penney and Target began sending holiday text alerts and built mobile sites and iPhone apps every bit as powerful as their online cousins. These applications have allowed consumers to order products, read reviews, send gift hints to friends, text early wake-up calls, and conduct a slew of other services typically only available online.
With these experiments having proved successful, look in 2010 for these pioneers to keep blazing trails with:
- Bar Coded Coupons . 200 7-Eleven stores in San Diego are testing scannable bar codes on consumers. phones to get up to one free drink per day. Indeed, in the next two years Juniper Research projects three billion mobile coupons will be issued to phones.
-
What type of businesses can use text message services?
- Real Estate: Agents can text prospective buyers access to property listings, which allows them to quickly set up appointments to view a listing or request more information on it. Real estate agents can send text messages to prospective clients when a property is listed that meets a client's needs. On a related note, landlords can text tenants just before the 1st of every month to remind them rent is due.
- Retail: Online retailers and mail order companies can use text messages to notify customers that their orders have been shipped, or delayed, if that is the case. Sending coupons, sneak preview sales, and exclusive offers directly to a customer's mobile phone is an inexpensive way to increase sales.
- Advertising: Agencies can text their subscribers to send them promos and other announcements.
- Services: Health care providers such as dentists, doctors, beauty salons, and spas can use text messaging to send clients' reminders of appointments and the customer can confirm it by texting back. With today's busy lifestyles, people often forget appointments. Missed appointments, mean missed revenue.
- Entertainment: Restaurants and nightclubs can easily benefit with texting. Break through the pages of newspaper ads in the entertainments section by texting VIP passes; drink specials, happy hour announcements, two-for-one-meal promotions and so much more to your customers.
- Event Planners: You can offer your customers the opportunity to sign up for notification of upcoming events and promotions directly to their mobile phones and even have guests text back their R.S.V.P.
- Media: If you've ever watched the popular reality show "American Idol" you will have seen a message at the bottom of the TV screen instructing you to vote for a contestant by Texting a certain number. Your vote is text messaged to the number provided and the votes tabulated.
- Cell Phone Companies: Cell phone providers text message their customers to remind them that their monthly plan payment will be taken out of their bank accounts on the agreed-upon date or text reminders for pay-as-you-go customers whose top-up balance is getting low.
- Automotive Industry: Automotive companies can use text message marketing to promote new models, fuel efficiency ratings, sales events and even directions to the nearest dealership.
- Magazine Industry: Top rated magazines are using text message marketing to increase readership as well as offer contests to win subscriptions and other prizes.
- Hotel/Motel Industry: The hotel industry is also getting on the bandwagon with text message marketing marketing. Major chains are launching campaigns offering discounts on room rates and to build customer loyalty.
- Finance: Text message marketing can keep managers informed of new marketing initiatives on behalf of national financial institutions.
- Fuel and Petroleum: Fuel companies are using text message marketing to offer free fill-ups at the pumps. A very innovative move with today's fuel prices.
-
Is it legal to text advertisements to my customers?
See MobileMarketer.com
Unsolicited bulk messages - whether sent by e-mail or text message are in violation of the ECA (Electronic Communications and Transactions Act. 2002 Chapter VII - Consumer Protection) in the United States unless certain guidelines are adhered to.
You must provide, and honor, an opt-out option (FREE of charge). If requested by the consumer, you are required to provide the source of the e-mail address or phone number you sent the message to. You may find yourself facings fines, if not.
As an example - a major mobile phone provider (not mentioning any names) was sued for sending text messages to it's own customers advertising their own service(s) and charging $.10 per text message! They ended up not only paying a fine for being in violation of the ECA, they had to reimburse their clients all of the money charged for the text messages in question!
One more point to keep in mind. A study has suggested a key reason to obtain permission to text ads to your clients is because people tend to think of their mobile phones as being "more private" than e-mail.
From the "Electronic
Communications and Transactions Act. 2002
Chapter VII - Consumer Protection"
45. Unsolicited goods, services or communications
- Any person who sends unsolicited commercial communications to consumers, must provide the consumer
- with the option to cancel his or her subscription to the mailing list of
that person; and
- with the identifying particulars of the source from which that person obtained the consumer's personal information, on request of the consumer.
- No agreement is concluded where a consumer has failed to respond to an unsolicited communication.
- Any person who fails to comply with or contravenes subsection (1) is guilty of an offence and liable, on conviction, to the penalties prescribed in section 89(1).
- Any person who sends unsolicited commercial communications to a person who has advised the sender that such communications are unwelcome, is guilty of an offence and liable, on conviction, to the penalties prescribed in section 89(1)."
